From the fanfic phenom whose debut A Pound of Flesh had over 4.5 million reads, this sequel, An Ounce of Hope, tells the passionate love story of Carter’s best friend, Max.
Max O’Hare can’t seem to let go of his past: his drug habit, the end of his relationship with Lizzie Jordan, the woman he knows he’ll never get over, and the loss of their unborn son.
After successfully completing rehab and learning to explore his deepest fears and dreams through painting, Max meets Grace Brooks. With her innate optimism, and her love of art and photography, Grace appears to be the perfect girl. Yet no one knows where she came from, or why she keeps her past so closely guarded. Over time, Max and Grace gradually allow each other in—but will he ever be able to fully let go of his past? Or will his heart remain closed forever?
Max O’Hare is trying his best to stay clean. He’s in rehab and needs to get better or else he’ll continue on the self-destructive path he was on. Thanks to Carter, his best friend, he’s in one of the best facilities to help him get there. But it’s not easy. Max has to face all of the demons and heartache of his past if he’s going to start to heal. And the last thing he needs or wants is a new woman in his life to complicate things. I loved Max. He’s strong, possessive, but had this vulnerable side to him that drew me in.
Enter the beautiful Grace Brooks. She’s moved to a small town and looking to start over. After she buys a run-down old house, she hires a local crew to start making it look better. She has her own past she’s trying to recover from. It’s hard for her to trust men, but she’s trying. When a new man appears on the construction crew working on her house, she takes notice of him. She’s also heard that he’s a recovering addict and knows she should stay away. Only she can’t. Grace is a character I had a lot of respect for. She went out on her own and built a new life.
Together Max and Grace start a routine of running and they become fast friends. Friends who learn to trust one another. Can two people with fears and other baggage move forward and explore what’s between them? Or will they let that keep them apart?
I really enjoyed this book. The chemistry was great, characters written in a way that really pulls you in, and I was left wondering what was going to happen next. I turned the pages quickly and couldn’t wait to see how the story ended. This book is a great addition to the series. I can’t wait to read the next one. – Reviewed by Michelle Dare
