Walking the thin blue line…
Detective Sergeant Sam Holland of the Washington, DC, Metro Police needs a big win to salvage her career—and her confidence—after a disastrous investigation. The perfect opportunity arises when Senator John O'Connor is found brutally murdered in his bed, and Sam is assigned to the case. Matters get complicated when Sam has to team up with Nick Cappuano, O'Connor's friend and chief of staff…and the man Sam had a memorable one-night stand with years earlier. Their sexual chemistry still sizzles, and Sam has to fight to stay focused on the case. Sleeping with a material witness is another mistake she can't afford—especially when the bodies keep piling up.

Review

This book, for me, had a bunch of first! It was the first book I’ve read by Marie Force, first book that involved politicians that I actually enjoyed reading and the first time I’ve ever read a book that had my little hometown was mentioned in!

Detective Sergeant Sam Holland six years ago had a one-night stand with Nick Cappuano. She would have liked it to be more than that, but he never tried to get in touch with her. She wound up marrying her roommate, Peter and had forgotten about that one night with Nick (she never completely forgot, just pushed it to the back of her mind). She’s now divorced and lives with her dad, who was wounded in the line of duty and she takes care of him. She doesn’t have time for men in her life…between work and her dad, she’s busy! She’s put on a case where Senator John O’Connor was found dead and of course, just her luck, Nick is the one that found him! Since, she’s been in trouble recently she’s hoping this will restore everyone’s faith in her as a police officer and she reluctantly accepts the case.

Nick and John have been best friends for a long time and John is Nick’s boss. Nick went to see what the hold up was with John being late and what he found was a dead John. Once he’s done throwing up from finding his friend he phones the police. Just his luck the Detective handling this case is none other than Samantha Holland, his one-night stand from six years ago that he never got over.

How are Sam and Nick going to work together on this murder? Will she find out why he never called her all those years ago? The flames between them are still there, but is it enough?

I normally glaze over when books have political figures in them, but with this book it wasn’t too political and enjoyable. I loved all the characters and loved how twisty this book kept getting! I couldn’t finish reading it fast enough to see of all the suspects, who killed John?! I would have probably enjoyed more romance less mystery with this…but it still was a good book! I love fiction books where the sky is the limit as to what the author can conjure up for a story line!
