Where to start. There was a lot going on in this first part of the series (In a very goodway).
Lexi is on vacation with three best friends when one of her friends, Christina, is killed. Lexi witnesses the guy leaving the alley and is now on a mission to revenge Christina’s murder.
Thorn is a hot Dragon King in town with Darius assigned to rid the city of dark fae.
Once Thorn sees Lexi, he is drawn to protect her.
There are about 6 other secondary characters with point of views that help explain the world and what’s going on.
This is definitely a book that sucks you in right away. I’m very much looking forward to the next book. Cliffhanger alert.

Kyon Ensin finally has what he’s always wanted: possession of Kricket Hollowell, the priestess who foresees the future. Together, their combined power will be unrivaled. Kricket, however, doesn’t crave the crown of Ethar—she has an unbreakable desire to live life on her own terms, a life that she desperately wants to share with her love, Trey Allairis.

As conspiracies rage in the war for Ethar, Kricket’s so-called allies want to use her as a spy. Even those held closest cannot be trusted—including Astrid, her sister, and Giffen, a member of a mysterious order with a hidden agenda. But Kricket’s resolve will not allow her to be used as anyone’s pawn, even as the Brotherhood sharpens its plans to cut out her heart.

As the destiny prophesied by her mother approaches, Kricket will backtrack through her fiery future to reshape it. For she knows one thing above all else: the only person she can truly count on is herself.

This is book three in the series and needs to be read in order.

CONTAINS SPOILERS

I dove into this book and couldn’t wait to see what happened with Kricket, Trey, and Kyon. Kyon has Kricket. She’s at his home with him and forced into a life she never wanted. There is no escaping him. His island is like a fortress and if she tries to leave he’ll know. This is Kricket’s story of how she adapted, what she did to fulfill the prophecy, and how she survived.

What I loved – Kyon! Surprisingly, he really grew on me. By the end I was a fan of his. She seemed to find her match in him. Was he the right one for her? I don’t know. They worked, but didn’t at the same time. He challenged her and I think she fed off of it.

What I wished were different – Trey! Where was he? Why didn’t he come and fight for Kricket? I missed him and his friends something terrible. I really wish there were more of them in the book. Kricket! Where was her you-can’t-keep-me-down spirit? I wanted her to fight Kyon. Yes, she couldn’t leave the island, but why not fight him, hurt him, try to get free at least?

I’m torn on the ending. While I was crying my eyes out I really wanted more of a resolution with the love triangle. It was left too open for being the last book in the series, but this is only my opinion. I’m glad Kricket got what she wanted, but did she really? What makes books great is that you don’t know what is going to happen. You’re along for the ride no matter where it may lead.

All in all the story was beautifully written, Kyon was developed perfectly, and it will be a book, and series, I’ll be thinking about for a long time. My heart hasn’t recovered yet nor do I think it will anytime soon.
