After a passionless marriage under the scrutiny of high society, Avery Stowe is taking back her life. All she wants is a little privacy and a quiet place to raise her autistic daughter, Hailey. Redwood Ridge, Oregon, seems to offer all the right ingredients. Except for the problem of the local sexy veterinarian. The last thing she needs in her life is to fall for his irresistible allure, even if he is a nice guy who keeps doing her favors. But the well-meaning patrons of her new hometown have other ideas, and it appears playing Cupid is one of them.
Cade O’Grady has never met a woman he couldn't handle, but when Avery Stowe walks into his office late one night cradling an injured puppy, he’s struck stupid. Which might explain her total lack of interest in him. But now that she’s working for his family’s clinic, he doesn't have to lust from a distance. He might just have a chance at convincing Avery—and her too-guarded heart—that falling for the right man isn't a mistake . . .

This is the first book I’ve read by Kelly Moran and it won’t be the last! This is a great beginning of a new series and I look forward to reading more of these three hot Veterinarian brothers!

Avery is on her way to Redwood Ridge, Oregon to live in her mom’s town with her autistic daughter, Hailey. Her and her husband, Richard have divorced and Avery decided it was time for a fresh start and to find herself after being what he wanted her to be for 10 years. Exhausted from her trip, her mom and her fall asleep on the couch and she wakes up and feels cold air in the room. The door is open and Hailey is missing! Luckily, it snowed and she can see the direction that Hailey went. She find her and she’s covered in blood! Freaking out she checks Hailey over and realizes she’s cradling a hurt puppy. They rush the puppy to the vet.

Cade is one of three brothers that works at his family’s clinic. He’s the youngest, the most fun and the playboy who doesn’t want commitment! He’s had a horrible day and when someone is banging on his door late at night, he knows it isn’t going to get any better. He finds a woman, a little girl and an injured puppy. Of course, being a man, he assumes the worse about the puppy….a negligent owner. So he let’s her have it about being so irresponsible and she doesn’t say a word to dispute that.

Once Cade finds out the whole puppy thing was a huge misunderstanding, he goes to apologize to Avery. He doesn’t know a lot about kids, but he seems to have a soft spot for Hailey and Avery. He hits it off with both of them and attempts to shut those thoughts down….but can he? Can these two that have no interest in relationships have one?
This was such a sweet book! I fell in love with Cade even when he assumed the worse about Avery. It’s like him and her were kindred spirits from the beginning, but they both were fighting it! I gotta admit Hailey made me very uncomfortable and I kinda read through her parts faster, but, that’s just me. It was a great story, very well written! I look forward to reading more of this series and I’m guessing/hoping each hot Vet brother gets their own love story! Reviewed by Judy

Cade is considered the quintessential play boy. In his family of eligible hotness, he is the most sought after. The youngest most playful of the brothers and the most accessible. He doesn’t have to work for it and he doesn’t feed lines or play with emotions. He doesn’t do anything serious.

Until he meets a woman that can make him disgusted and turned on at the same time. Misreading the situation, Cade assumes the worst about Avery (hence the disgust) but can’t help to notice all the rest of her too.

Avery thinks the prickly vet, aka the Jerk, is just another example of men being men. Finally divorced from the tool she married, it’s clear her opinion of men could use some work but Avery has no intention of changing it. No men, no relationships, no love. Just no.

Well, somethings are easier said than done…

My name is Matt Holcomb, and I'm the good guy. The boy next door. I'm the safe bet and I always do the right thing. Then one night two years ago, I made a terrible mistake that caused irreparable damage, and the guilt is killing me. If I'm ever to make the leap and find love again, the woman would have to be perfect. She can't disrupt my carefully constructed control. I met my best friend Jenny Winter as a teenager and have loved her ever since. She's gorgeous and talented. Her voice could make angels weep. Yet she chose someone else and I swore I'd never fall for her again. Until something happens between us and passion ignites. But she's not the right woman for me, and crossing the line with her would not only change everything, it'll take away the only good thing I have left.

Review

Jenny has been in love with Matt since she was 16 and he was the only one who saw her and being the good guy he wanted to protect her. On and off for the last 12 years Jenny and Matt have been best friends and as desperate as Jenny is to change things Matt doesn’t seem to notice. Little does Jenny know Matt does notice he just doesn’t know how to handle it so he dates women that are the opposite of Jenny. Matt takes a job near Jenny so they can and out more often and that’s when Matt finds out he may not have known his best friend at all. I admire Jenny’s strength to tackle problems head on and Matt to try and find his own strength. – Reviewed by Linda Rea

Review

Summer’s Road by Kelly Moran is a story of loss, fear, friendship and finding love where it’s least expected.  Summer Quinn’s father died from cancer 4 years ago and even with three best friends who have always been there for her since childhood, she feels alone.  Summer thinks that she gives all the right answers all the time, but she doesn’t acknowledge that she isn’t coping.  After her father’s death, she relied on her friends, Ian, Rick and Rick’s wife Dee but four years on, thinks that she must not take so much from them anymore.  Her response is often “I’m fine”.  Her mother left her & her father when she was small, so Summer has no recollection of her and hasn’t seen her for years until she turns up at Summers door to claim half the house that Summer believed was hers! She rushes off to her boyfriend Matt, also a childhood friend, seeking solace and support and he declares that he loves her. They’ve had an open relationship for a few months and she doesn’t now how to respond, but Matt is dependable, sweet and kind – he’s a safe choice and would offer Summer a quiet life. She heads back home to Ian Memmer, nextdoor neighbour, impossibly good looking carpenter and serial womaniser.  Summer teaches a weekly art class to a group of children with cancer and devotes herself to them and their families when they are hospitalised or pass away, but she’s still always “fine.” She holds herself back, so that she’s not truly, deeply, affected by what is going on around her and what she doesn’t realise is that Ian has been in love with Summer for years and is waiting for her to notice him.  But Summer plays it safe, protecting herself from more hurt.  How will she ever realise that true forever love is staring her in the face?
This book is deeply emotional and deals with a personality type that many people will recognize in others or even themselves.  If you don’t open yourself up to what is around you, you can ensure that people don’t get too close and so you can’t be hurt.  It isn’t until Summer really starts to see into the hearts and minds of her friends that she finds herself.
Kelly Moran originally published this book in paperback in 2011 and now it is being released as ebook. At about 300 pages, it is an ideal length to allow the reader to appreciate the story and character development. This is my first book by the author and it won’t be the last. – Reviewed by Morilyn Carter
